To whom it may concern!
My name is Richard van Balen, I am Dutch and have a lot of experience in scientific software system development. Officially, I am a Master of Science (MSc.) in Medical Biology with specialisations in Neurobiology, Quantitative Pathology and Medical Informatics. Above all, however, many people appreciate my exceptional talent in software development. |
I worked 1 year as Technical-Scientific System Developer at the 'Pathological Institute' of the Free University (VU) in Amsterdam and 5 years as a Scientific Researcher at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). After that I worked as an independent software advisor and developer in the industry for 5 years. I have done projects for 'Philips Medical Systems' and the 'TNO Institute for Applied Physics'. After that I worked for the University of Amsterdam (UvA) again for more than 10 years.
As a biology student, I designed and developed the SCIL-Image system for the application and development of image processing software, which later became the de facto industry standard for image processing development in the Netherlands. I developed commercial versions of SCIL-Image for Unix / X workstations, the PC with MsWindows, and the Apple Macintosh, which resulted in a good knowledge of and experience with these platforms and windowing systems.
In order to significantly simplify the development of MsWindows applications, I developed the component-based Imaging Application Framework (IAF), which makes it very easy to implement impressive ' Direct Manipulation Interfaces '. For the University of Amsterdam (UvA) I then developed the easily programmable OGL-GUI, a system-independent portable Windowing System with incredibly fast 2D / 3D image manipulation and display, which is fully expressed on the graphics card with OpenGL.
Lately I've been working on an attempt to help the world to reduce stress with my artistic visual pleasing, almost hypnotic, mobile 3D app MagicArt Relax.
I am an analyst well trained in abstract thinking, with a good sense of humor. I have exceptional insight into the correct structure of large software systems and a special talent for making complex topics easy again. I have experience in coaching and leading people in software projects.
With a lot of experience in the fields of Medical Biology, Image Analysis, Component Software, 2D/3D direct manipulation interfaces and fluid GUI technology, I could possibly contribute to your company.
Sincerely,
